Finding and fixing real, quality food is central to Modern Homesteading. We get calls every week asking how to find naturally raised meat, chemical free vegetables, and local milk or honey. The great news is the local food movement is growing, and you can be a part of it!

Vote with your dollar. Find the closest farmers market to you and make it a part of your weekly routine. Buy a share in a CSA (community supported agriculture) and get a box of fresh, local veggies every week. Buy a share in a live animal raised by a farmer you trust and fill your freezer with food you trust.

By supporting local farmers, you are keeping money in your own community, assuring food quality for your family, and increasing the availability of healthy options for your community. Using your food dollars wisely is one of the most important stands you can take for a more sustainable lifestyle.

Thanks to the folks at Starkville Real Food, we are able to share this list of local resources. Don't have a list for your area? Our was built by a few excited folks, and I encourage you to build a list for your community! If you do not live near Starkville, the button below will take you to a national database of local foods by zip code.
